Rudder Overview

Here is a picture of the completed rudder. It has three main pieces: The foil, the upper bracket and the lower bracket.

The blue line is for the locking mechanism. The upper and lower clamps are operated by the same line, which keeps the load balanced.

The upper bracket pivots on a 1/4" plate which is bolted to the top of the transom.

The lifting line is on the other side. When fully raised, the bottom of the rudder is 4" above the stub keel, which keeps it from getting damaged when stern tying in shallow water. This was a big problem with the factory rudder. When fully lowered, the rudder is 2" deeper than the factory rudder. The extra length gives more lift but the rudder is still shallower than the bottom of the centerboard.
