Traveler

The traveler is made from standard Harken hardware. The track is Harken part number 2721.1.8m high beam variable spacing. I ordered it through Defender, since they offerred a track bending service. The track is curved to match the arc of the boom, which keeps the leech tension (hence sail shape) constant as the traveler moves. Although I prefer to do all my own work, I decided that track bending was best left to someone with the proper equipment. It cost a few bucks and was a hassle to order, but the result was excellent.

The car is Harken part number 2728. I wasn't sure if I needed it, but decided to go for 2:1 purchase on the control lines. The mainsheet control is a Lewmar 29925037 Fiddle Cam Synchro Block (without becket), which gives a 3:1 purchase. If you want 4:1, get the version with a becket. I think 4:1 is overkill and just makes a bigger pile of line in the cockpit.

Here is the control line assembly. The HDPE block provides a solid stop for the car. The end of the line goes through a hole and is secured with a knot. Be sure to countersink the hole, as the HDPE edge is sharp enough to trash the line.

Harken makes a nice conrol assembly with a block and cleat that attaches to the track, but the price was absurd.
