Railings and Backrests

The railings and fittings are 7/8 stainless steel. The forward attachment is a 5 1/2 degree fitting. The top railing needs to be curved a bit, which requires some sort of tubing bender. (I made one from some scrap lumber) The vertical sections are all straight. I spent a LOT of time mocking this up with PVC pipe.

The backrests are made from 1 x 6 pine with a series of half depth vertical cuts. The cuts make the backrests easier to bend so they match the curve of the railing. There is an inch of closed cell foam covered with sunbrella. The backrests attach to the railing posts with window protectors (Taylor part # 11747) that have been drilled out and screwed to the wood. They pop on and off easily but are quite secure when attached.

The fenders are stored topside and clip to the railing with clip-on adjusters. I really like the adjusters made by Folbe.

The small blocks of HDPE just below the rub rail are for the cockpit tent poles. On the far left of the photo, you can see how the stern cleat has been rotated slightly to avoid interference with the railing post.
