Here is an overview shot of the cockpit.
The higher railings on the sides and the traveler track aft create a very secure cockpit. The track is supported in the center by four pieces of aluminum bar stock, two on the back of the transom and two on top. They are tied together with a block of mahogany which is laminated from three 1/2 thick inch pieces for extra strength. The top supports angle out to allow full tiller travel.
The higher railings would seem to make entry/exit and loading a bit harder, but it hasn't turned out to be a problem in actual use. The traveler track is a very secure handhold when boarding from the swim ladder.
The mainsheet is out of the way, especially nice when going downwind, where the old bridle system used to strangle the helmsman.
