One of the main attractions of the P-19 was the ability to beach, so we ordered the factory kickup rudder. After using it for a year, it became obvious that a better design was needed. Though we made some mods to improve raising/lowering, there are many other problems with design.

• Stronger design that is less likely to fail
• Ability to leave the rudder in place while trailering
• Easy raising and lowering, preferably with one hand
• No interference with the prop when raised
• Ability to use the rudder in a partially raised position
• Larger size for better control in rough conditions
• True NACA foil shape for optimum lift/drag ratio
• No increase in effective stern weight
